Stepping Up When Needed : A core part of the team
Client in the construction industry in another town. For the past seven years I’ve managed the financial side of the business, which included working very closely with the client's Quantity Surveyor in terms of administering contractor payments (with monthly batches being anything from $80k to $1m +).
The Quantity Surveyor resigned and in addition to the bookkeeping role, I offered to work on site with the Managing Director for 2 days per fortnight, stepping into a higher role on a temporary basis to help fill the gap left behind by the QS until a new person was appointed to the position.
The tradie that didn't sit still
One client I worked with for a couple of years and helped get his business really off the ground in terms of systems and admin – at the first approach on the phone said to me – "I’ve got loads of energy which is great as a tradie. Trouble is, sitting still and focus are not really my thing… that’s why I need your skill set in my business".
We developed a great partnership where he would get on and do the “work”-work and I would do the “book”-work.
